The Legal Status of Palestinians in Lebanon
Union of Palestinian Lawyers; Union of Palestinian Authors and Joumalists
This paper addresses the laws and implementing structures that impact on the status, lives and freedom of Palestinians in Lebanon. By analysing specific pieces of legislation, the paper shows the dichotomy between the legislation itself and its practical impact on the lives of Palestinians. In a review of the laws dealing with residency rights, travel permits, labour regulations, education and property ownership, the author demonstrates that the absence of specific legislation addressing Palestinians' unique situation has made them vulnerable to marginalization within the Lebanese polity, both as individuals and as a community
